ADAPT & EXTEND
Brief – The primary concept for my design of the extension to the Templeman Library at the University of Kent was to create open atrium spaces. This will help improve the natural daylight levels and ventilation in the Library. The atrium also acts as a visual anchor which can help visitors and students in navigating the building as well as determine which floor they are currently on.
Due to the existing libraries imposing scale I decided that for my extension to express itself it needed to be taller than the existing structure. The extension is separated from the library by an atrium which provides a Café space as well as three bridges leading into the extension.
